This cocktail picks up slightly bitter notes from the Green Chartreuse and cacao tincture. The sweetness of the Luxardo® Maraschino Liqueur blends well with the sweet vermouth and Maker’s Mark® Bourbon. This drink is a rocking apéritif.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/4 parts Maker’s Mark® Bourbon
  • 1/2 part Green Chartreuse
  • 1/2 part Carpano® Antica Vermouth
  • 1/4 part Luxardo® Maraschino Liqueur
  • 3 dashes cacao tincture*
  • Burnt orange zest and orange peel for garnish
  • Cacao nibs

Instructions

  1. *For cacao tincture, pack a mason jar with cacao nib. Fill with Maker’s Mark® Bourbon and cap.
  2. Let it sit for at least a week, shaking a little every so often. When peak flavor has been achieved, strain through a chinois packed with cheese cloth and store in an empty bitters bottle or eye dropper.
  3. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass.
  4. Stir until well chilled and diluted.
  5. Strain into chilled coupe.
  6. Burn orange zest on top of the cocktail and discard the peel.
  7. Using a potato peeler, peel an orange peel, zest the fresh oil on top as well, then rub around the rim of the glass and drop in.
