After Prohibition ended in 1932, whisky distilleries all over the country (including the Samuels Family Distillery) began producing under-aged whisky that was rough, tough and unpleasant. This sad state of whisky in America directly led Bill Samuels, Sr., to sell his family distillery and then risk everything on the idea of a smooth, full-flavored bourbon that would be easy on the palate – Maker’s Mark®.
