About the Bourbon Renewal

This remix on a classic Whisky Sour uses Crème de Cassis to make it sweet and special. “Cassis,” French for blackcurrant, is a liqueur derived from these berries by macerating them in brandy or a neutral grain spirit. This specialty of the Burgundy region has been produced there since 1841.

TIPS FOR A GREAT
Bourbon Renewal

Crème de la crème

Used judiciously, crème de cassis can add deliciously sweet tartness as well as brilliant hues to your drink. It’s made from blackcurrants that are macerated in either brandy or a neutral spirit.

Golden ratio

Your simple syrup can vary by the type of sugar you use and your ratio of sugar to water. This cocktail calls for a 1:1 simple syrup. If you’d like a sweeter, thicker syrup for other drinks, try two parts sugar to one part water.

Stay sweet

Simple syrup will keep in the refrigerator for at least a week and has a number of uses. It’s great in sauces, marinades, vinaigrettes and, of course, other Maker’s cocktails.
