Build the cocktail: Add bourbon, sweet vermouth and aromatic bitters, the essential ingredients of a Manhattan cocktail, to a mixing glass.

STEP 2:

Stir and Strain: Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes or hand-cracked block ice. Stir for about 30 seconds, until the glass feels properly cold. Strain into a chilled coupe glass.

STEP 3: FINISH WITH A TWIST

Finish with a twist: Express an orange peel over the drink to release its oils, then place it into the Manhattan cocktail. Add a rinsed Luxardo cherry to a garnish pin and rest it neatly on the rim.

What Makes a Manhattan a Manhattan?

A Manhattan is a classic, spirit-forward cocktail made with whisky, sweet vermouth and aromatic bitters. Alongside the Old Fashioned, it is one of those timeless drinks that proves a great cocktail does not need to be complicated, just well balanced, properly stirred with ice and made with quality ingredients.

A traditional Manhattan recipe is often made with rye whisky, which gives the drink a drier, spicier edge. A Manhattan made with bourbon follows a smoother, rounder route, bringing a little more sweetness and warmth without losing the bold character that defines the cocktail.

That is exactly where a premium whisky like Maker’s Mark® 46 feels at home. Finished with French oak staves, Maker’s 46 brings rich notes of caramel, vanilla and baking spice, along with a long, enduring finish. Those deeper flavors settle beautifully into the herbal richness of sweet vermouth, while aromatic bitters add spice, lift and structure.

The result is a fuller, warmer bourbon Manhattan that remains polished and perfectly balanced. A little more generous, a little more rounded and, in true Maker’s fashion, made better by taking the long way around.

Maker’s Sour

The Maker’s Sour is a refined and refreshing blend of sour and sweet. Our Maker’s Sour is inspired by the Whisky Sour, a refreshingly citrus-forward cocktail; 1862’s "The Bartender's Guide" by Jerry Thomas is recognized as one of the first mentions of this classic. This cocktail has had enduring appeal and reaches a new level of refreshing when the sour notes are mixed with Maker’s® sweetness.
