Pro Tips
Coupe glasses make an elegant statement with drinks like sours, sparkling wine cocktails and the Manhattan. Created in the 1660s for Champagne, they were not, as legend has it, designed around the shape of Marie Antoinette’s bosom.
To quickly chill your glass fill it with ice and water and place it in the freezer. By the time you’ve prepared your drink, the glass will be nice and frosty.
The higher proof of Maker’s Mark 46 allows the bourbon notes to stand up to whatever you mix it with. It’s particularly nice in a Manhattan and other classic cocktails.

How to

  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass.
  2. Add ice and stir.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  4. Garnish with an orange peel.

A DIFFERENT SPIN History of Maker’s Mark 46 Revolver

This bourbon and coffee-inspired take on the Manhattan actually comes to us from the West Coast. The Revolver Cocktail was brewed up in 2004 at a landmark nightclub in San Francisco’s Mission District. It delighted guests and quickly became a hit – the showstopper being the orange twist which cast a small flare over each cocktail. In this version, Maker’s Mark 46 provides the base and coffee liqueur replaces the usual sweet vermouth.
