Spiked Apple Pie

Perfect for Thanksgiving, this cocktail comes to us from Maya-Camille Broussard, noted baker behind Justice of the Pies in Chicago. Inspired by fresh-baked pie, Maya blends homemade spiced apple with Maker’s Mark® to serve up fall flavors almost good enough to eat.

Ingredients

  • 1 part Maker’s Mark Bourbon
  • 1 tbsp. spiced apples (recipe below)
  • 1/4 part orange liqueur
  • 1 part apple cider
  • Splash of ginger beer
  • Orange slice and rosemary sprig for garnish

Better by the batch
If you’re hosting Thanksgiving, turn this cocktail into a punch. Multiply and pre-mix your first four ingredients. Save the ice, ginger beer and garnish until you’re ready to serve.
Orange you glad?
Orange liqueur basically splits into two categories, either of which works well in this recipe. Those labeled curaçao tend to be slightly sweeter than triple sec. (“Sec” means dry in French.)

How to

For the cocktail
  1. Pour Maker’s Mark into an ice-filled rocks glass.
  2. Add 1 tbsp. of spiced apples.
  3. Add orange liqueur.
  4. Add cold apple cider and a splash of ginger beer.
  5. Stir and garnish with an orange slice and a sprig of rosemary.
For the spiced apple
  1. Core and chop one apple.
  2. Add apple to saucepan with 1/4 c. water, 1 tbsp. butter, 1 tsp. cinnamon and 1 tbsp. brown sugar.
  3. Heat until sugar and spices are dissolved and the apple softened.
